Commercial Point begins to be developed as an industrial area.

1807

The area is purchased by Joseph Newell and John Niles. The two men build large homes for themselves, a wharf, a store, and shipyard. The businesses fail by 1813, however. An attempt to promote industry in the area is made again in the 1830s.
